I used to think magic was mostly candles and rituals.
There was something comforting about that — the structure, the symbolism, the feeling of doing something intentional. And I still love those things. I still light candles. I still mark the moon.
But lately, magic has looked different.
The past few days have been chaotic in the way real life often is. Unexpected tension. Disruptions. The kind of energy that used to send me straight into survival mode.
The old version of me would have spiraled.
Lost sleep. Numbed out. Shut down. Reacted quickly and harshly. Abandoned myself in an effort to regain control.
Instead, something else happened.
I paused.
I breathed.
I stayed.
Not perfectly. Not effortlessly. But intentionally.
For someone who has lived in survival mode for most of her life, that feels like real spellwork.
There is something deeply powerful about choosing regulation in the middle of chaos. About allowing your nervous system to settle instead of letting it run the show. About responding instead of reacting.
It’s not flashy. It doesn’t photograph well. There’s no altar setup to share.
But it is sacred.
I’m learning that safety in my own body may be the deepest ritual I practice. That healing isn’t always dramatic — sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s simply not doing what you used to do.
Breathing instead of spiraling.
Resting instead of punishing yourself.
Staying instead of disappearing.
If you’ve lived in survival mode too, you know how radical that shift can feel.
This is the kind of magic I want to honor here.
The kind that happens beneath the surface.
The kind that builds safety slowly.
The kind that doesn’t require an audience.
Candles and rituals still have their place. But sometimes the most powerful spell is choosing to remain grounded when everything inside you wants to run.
Quiet healing is still magic.
And choosing to regulate, again and again, is a ritual in its own right.
